A former town in Aki-gun, bordering Tsu City in northern Mie Prefecture. Occupying the northeastern Nunobiki Mountains, it is primarily engaged in agriculture, mainly rice farming. In recent years, an industrial complex has been developed and companies have been established there. In January 2006, Hisai City, Kawage Town, Geino Town, Misato Village, Ichishi Town, Karasu Town, Hakusan Town, and Misugi Village in Aki-gun were incorporated into Tsu City. 36.93 km2 .
