Located 25km east of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, China, at the foot of Mount Taibai, it is one of the five Zen temples in China known as the "Southeast Buddhist Country." Since it was built by Zen Master Yixing in 300 during the Fu Dynasty, it has been rebuilt several times and has been revived as a large temple rarely seen in China, with a floor area of 45,000 m2 and a total of 999 rooms. ◇The name "Tian Tong Temple" comes from a legend that when founder Yixing first established a hermitage in this place and was performing ascetic practices to build the temple, Taibai Mountain God "Taibai Jin Xing" borrowed the body of a young boy and delivered food and drink every day under the orders of the Jade Emperor (the supreme god of Taoism). The temple consists of buildings arranged in a stepped pattern from the foot of the mountain to the mountainside. Source: Kodansha World Tourist Attractions Encyclopedia Information |
