The national anthem of the People's Republic of China. Lyrics by Tian Han, music by Nie Er. Originally, it was the theme song for the film "Children of the Storm" (1935), which depicts a young poet rising up against Japan, but its heroic melody captured the hearts of many people during the Anti-Japanese War, making it a representative revolutionary song, and it was designated the national anthem when the People's Republic of China was founded. The gist of the lyrics is, "Rise up, people who are not content to be slaves. With our blood, build a new Great Wall. The Chinese nation is now at the crossroads of a critical moment. Let out a final, fierce battle cry. Rise, rise, rise. Everyone, unite as one, and advance against the enemy's guns." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
