A drama series written by Kikuta Kazuo. It was broadcast on NHK Radio from 1952 to 1954. Atomiya Haruki and Ujiie Machiko, who met for the first time at Sukiyabashi in Ginza during the Great Tokyo Air Raids, parted ways without telling each other their names, promising to meet again. However, when they met again after the war, Machiko had already married another man. The story is a melodrama about the tragic love that follows the pair's subsequent misunderstandings, and was so popular that it was said that the women's baths at public baths were completely empty when it was broadcast. It was made into a film in 1953, directed by Oba Hideo and starring Sada Keiji and Kishi Keiko, and became a huge hit. Parts two and three were made, all of which were box office successes. The long shawl that Kishi Keiko wore around her head and neck became a huge hit at the time, and was known as the "Machiko wrap." Even today, the monument remains in the small park at the site of the former Sukiyabashi Bridge. [Nagasaki Ichi] In 1958 (Showa 33), the outer moat was filled in, and the area where Sukiyabashi was located is now Sukiyabashi Park. In the park, there is a monument by Kazuo Kikuta that reads "Sukiyabashi was here."
