An evergreen tree of the Rutaceae family endemic to Ogasawara that is completely hairless and grows to a height of about 7m. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, leathery, 2.5-10cm long, crushed at the tip and wedge-shaped at the base. The petiole is 1.5-2.5cm long. A panicle 2-3cm long is produced in the axil at the end of the branch, and many small white flowers grow. The plant is dioecious and the flowers are tetrameric. The male flowers are about 1.5mm long. The calyx has 4 shallow lobes, is about half the length of the petals, and is hairy. The stamens of male flowers are shorter than the petals. The ovary is circular and hairy, and the carpels are completely fused, with a single short style at the end.
