Kimi Pass - Kimi Pass

Japanese: 紀見峠 - きみとうげ

Also called Kiimi Pass. A pass on the border between Kawachinagano City, Osaka Prefecture and Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture. It is about 438m above sea level. The Koya Highway, which connects Osaka and Mount Koya, crosses the Izumi Mountains, and has been a popular place for pilgrimages to Mount Koya since ancient times. A village called Kiimi developed on the south side of the pass, but when the Kii Railway (now the Wakayama Line) opened in 1900 and the Osaka Koya Railway (now the Nankai Electric Railway Koya Line) opened in 1915, the village lost its function as a post town and fell into desolation. Currently, both the railway and National Route 170 pass under the pass through the Kiimi Tunnel.

紀伊見 (きいみ) 峠ともいう。大阪府河内長野市と和歌山県橋本市の境にある峠。標高約 438m。大阪と高野山を結ぶ高野街道が和泉山脈を横切るところにあり，古くから高野山詣での往来が多かった。峠の南寄りに紀見という峠集落が発達したが，1900年に紀和鉄道 (現和歌山線) が，15年に大阪高野鉄道 (現南海電気鉄道高野線) が開通し，宿場機能が失われて集落は寂れた。現在，鉄道，国道 170号線とも峠の下を紀見トンネルで抜ける。
