One-way flow - Katanagare

Japanese: 片流れ - かたながれ

A type of roof shape in which the slope flows down to only one side. This style of house is widely distributed from India to Southwest Asian countries and the arid regions of Africa. In this region, there is little rain and strong sunlight, so the exterior walls of the houses are constructed with sun-dried bricks, and many of the roofs of the houses have a gently sloping single-sided roof. In Japan, single-sided roofs are also used for temporary housing, markets hastily built after the war, small stores, and regular houses. The beckoning roof, which has a short surface added to one end of the single-sided roof, is also a variation of the single-sided roof.
