The direction Muslims face when praying. Initially, Muhammad decided to pray facing the direction of Jerusalem, but in 624, when he became hostile to the Jews, a divine revelation suggested that they pray facing the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. Since then, the Kaaba has been the center of faith in Islam, and mosques around the world, without exception, are built so that their central axis coincides with the direction of Mecca, or the qibla. In addition, a mihrab is installed on the innermost wall of the prayer room as a marker for this qibla.
