A renga master from the mid-Muromachi period. A monk at Rokkakudo Chohoji Temple in Kyoto. He was called Shunyobo. It is unclear who his renga teacher was, but he seems to have studied renga in the same world as Sozei and Chiun. Renga works that he participated in can be seen from around 1443 (Kakitsu 3), but there are not many of them. However, he was highly regarded by his disciple Sogi, and 108 of his poems were included in the Shinsen Tsukubashu, ranking third after Shinkei and Sozei. Shinkei praised his style for being simple yet profound. His works include Katahashi and his haiku collection Hogen Senjun Renga. In addition, he is considered the 26th head of the Ikenobo school of flower arrangement, and is said to have established the three elements of standing flower arrangement, sand arrangement, and fresh flower arrangement (Ikenobo Origin Record).
