Like the bharal, this mammal (illustration) is an even-toed ungulate mammal of the bovidae family, which resembles both sheep and goats. It is found in the highlands of the desert and semi-desert regions from Morocco and Western Sahara to Egypt and Sudan. Its body length is 130-165 cm, tail length 15-25 cm, shoulder height 75-112 cm, and weight is 100-145 kg for males and 40-55 kg for females. Both sexes have horns, the males' are thick and long, measuring about 70 cm. Its body is sturdy, with short limbs and hard, small hooves. It resembles sheep in the shape of its horns and the lack of a beard, but it resembles goats in the lack of parotid glands and the nearly circular cross-section of its horns, and is sometimes included in the Capricorn genus.
