This refers to the vocabulary that is most frequently used in daily life. It is also called basic vocabulary. It includes names of parts of the human body, names of relatives, words related to daily life such as food, clothing, and shelter, words related to common natural objects, numerals, pronouns, adverbs, and conjunctions. Basic vocabulary relies less on loanwords than words that reflect a more advanced culture. Based on this and the hypothesis that the rate of change in basic vocabulary over time is roughly constant in each language, linguistic chronology has been proposed.
