This is a chronological book that records the main events of Ise Grand Shrine from its founding to the end of the Heian period. It was written in the late Heian period by the Arakida clan, who were the chief priests of the Grand Shrine of Ise. It consists of two volumes, the first volume covers the period from the establishment of the Grand Shrine under Emperor Suinin to the time of Emperor Go-Ichijo, and the second volume covers the period of Emperor Go-Suzaku and Go-Reizei. It is one of the important books for studying the history of the Grand Shrine of Ise, and although some parts are unreliable, it is a fundamental book for understanding the timing of the establishment of the Shikinen Sengu ceremony and the relationship between the Grand Shrine of Ise and the Imperial Court. In the late 9th century, Arakida Tokuo compiled the ancient records that had been written up to that point and continued to write the book himself, and later members of the clan, such as Okitada, Ujinaga, Nobutoshi, and Nomoto, wrote the book.

伊勢の神宮の，創建より平安末期までの主要事項を編年体で記した書。平安末期の撰，皇大神宮禰宜（ねぎ）荒木田一族の手で書きつがれてきた書で，2巻よりなり，第1巻は垂仁天皇のときの皇大神宮鎮座より後一条天皇のときまで，第2巻は後朱雀･後冷泉天皇のときについて記す。神宮史をみる上での重要書の一つで，信憑性に欠ける部分もあるが，式年遷宮の制定時期，神宮と朝廷との関係などをみる上で根本となる書で，9世紀末の荒木田徳雄が，それまでの古記文を編述の上，自身で書きつぎ，以後一族の興忠，氏長，延利，延基と書きついだ。
