Japanese: ウズベク - うずべく（英語表記）Узбек／Uzbek

Another name for the Republic of Uzbekistan, located in Central Asia. When the republic was one of the 15 republics that made up the former Soviet Union, it was called the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic (Узбекская ССР/Uzbekskaya SSR). Just before the collapse of the Soviet Union (December 1991), the republic declared independence in August 1991, and changed its name to the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekiston Respublikasy, English name: Republic of Uzbekistan, Russian name: Республика Узбекскистан/Respublika Uzbekistan), adopting the traditional regional name. Uzbek refers to the Uzbek people who live in the republic.

中央アジアに位置するウズベキスタン共和国の別名。同共和国が旧ソ連邦を構成する15共和国の一つであった時代にはウズベク・ソビエト社会主義共和国Узбекская ССР／Uzbekskaya SSRと称した。ソ連崩壊（1991年12月）直前の1991年8月独立を宣言し、名称も従来の地域名を採用してウズベキスタン共和国Uzbekiston Respublikasy（英語名Republic of Uzbekistan、ロシア語名Республика Узбекскистан／Respublika Uzbekistan）と改めた。なお、ウズベクは同共和国の住民ウズベク人を意味する。
