A samurai family from the Northern and Southern Courts and Muromachi periods. They are presumed to have been warriors from Awi, Shimogori, Settsushima (present-day Awi, Ibaraki City). The name Awi Seijun appears among the magistrates of the Muromachi Shogunate in June 1341 (Kokoku 2, Ryakuo 4), and a person named Awi Shinzaemon Nyudo Seii also appears in a letter of request dated April 1343 (Kokoku 4, Koei 2), so it is known that he was a Shogunate magistrate at the time. However, his name disappears from the Shogunate's Kyomiyo the following year, and there are no further instances of the Awi family being mentioned in the magistrates' reports, so it is presumed that he was dismissed in the reorganization in 1344.
