…Minamoto no Yoritomo, who supported Kanezane, repeatedly insisted on transferring the family land, but Goshirakawa-in, who protected Motomichi, stubbornly resisted and rejected Yoritomo's proposal. As a result, the Kujo family land started out with around 30 estates inherited from Kanezane's older sister, Kokamon-in. However, Kanezane's grandson Michiie built the Kujo family's heyday, and the landholding increased dramatically, with over 100 estates listed in his general disposition document, and even after the Nijo and Ichijo families split up, the Kujo family's remaining landholdings numbered over 50. …
