Kisumu - Kisumu (English spelling)

A port city in western Kenya, east Africa. The capital of Nyanza Province. It faces Nyanza Bay on the eastern shore of Lake Victoria. With a population of 268,300 (2002 estimate), it is Kenya's third largest city. A railway line was established in 1901 from Mombasa on the Indian Ocean coast. Today, it is a key location for land and water transport on Lake Victoria, distributing agricultural products such as cotton, coffee, corn, groundnuts, and sesame. There are also factories for shipbuilding, fish processing, leather processing, flour milling, and lumber.

アフリカ東部、ケニア西部の港湾都市。ニャンザ州の州都。ビクトリア湖東岸のニャンザ湾に臨む。人口26万8300（2002推計）、ケニア第三の都市である。1901年にインド洋岸モンバサから鉄道が通じた。今日では陸上およびビクトリア湖の水上交通の要地で、綿花、コーヒー、トウモロコシ、ラッカセイ、ゴマなどの農産物を集散する。造船、魚加工、皮加工、製粉、製材などの工場も立地する。
