Also known as a war tale. A narrative literature that deals with a certain era with war as its theme. Historical literature. Unlike "historical tales," it focuses on the emergence of samurai and the resulting upheaval. It is preceded by the Heian period's Masakado-ki and Mutsu-waki, and includes medieval works such as Hogen Monogatari, Heiji Monogatari, Heike Monogatari, Genpei Seisuiki, Jokyu-ki, Taiheiki, and Meitoku-ki. Many of them are written in a Japanese-Chinese style and were also written as narratives. The authors are generally unknown, and the originals are often further expanded and revised in the process of being told, so there are many variant versions. Similar works include a group of heroic biographies with a strong personal color, such as Yoshitsune-ki, Soga Monogatari, Nobunaga-koki, and Taiko-ki. → Related Articles Seiryo-ki | War Literature Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
