Located at the southern foot of the ancient famous mountain Yishan (1,032m), also known as Dong Taishan, and in the upper reaches of the Yi River. Farming is mainly field crops, with peanut production being particularly thriving. During the Spring and Autumn period, the county was on the border between Qi and Lu, and the remains of the Qi Great Wall remain at Muling Pass in the north of the county. During the Han dynasty, Dongguan County was established, and during the Tang dynasty, the county was renamed Yishui County. In 1940, the southern part became independent as Yinan County, and in 1954, excavations of a tomb from the late Eastern Han dynasty (the Yinan Epigraphic Stone Tombs) were discovered in the General's Tomb in Beizhai Village.
