Kirgiz people - Kyrgyz people (English spelling)

The core population of Kyrgyzstan. Also called Hkara Kirgiz. There are about 2.38 million people living in Kyrgyzstan, about 150,000 in Uzbekistan, and about 130,000 in China. Their language belongs to the Kipchak group of Turkic languages. Their ancestors lived in the upper reaches of the Yenisei River, and are recorded in Chinese historical documents as "Kenkun" and "Hekkun". Originally they lived a nomadic life, but are now settled and engaged in agriculture and heavy industry in cities. Their religion is Islam.

キルギスの基幹住民。カラ・キルギス Hkara Kirgizともいう。キルギスに約 238万人，ウズベキスタンに約 15万人，中国領内に約 13万人が居住する。言語はチュルク諸語のキプチャク語群に属する。祖先はエニセイ川上流に居住し，中国史料に「堅昆」「鬲昆」などと記された。元来は遊牧生活を営んでいたが，現在は定住し，農耕と都市の重工業に従事している。宗教はイスラム教を奉じる。
