...But the nationalistic literary movement developed into a political movement. In 1841, the Illyrian Party was founded, and in 1843, Ivan Kukuljević (1816-89) made the first Croatian speech in parliament, proposing the introduction of the Croatian language into public life. At first, the Austrian government in Vienna endorsed the Illyrian movement in its resistance to Magyarization, but became frightened by its brilliant success and in 1843 banned the Illyrian name and coat of arms.
