A district of Matsue City in the northeastern part of Shimane Prefecture. Formerly Katae Village. It is written as Katae no Sato in the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki. Facing the Sea of Japan, it is the birthplace of bottom trawling. There are migrant fishermen based in the ports of Sakai and Hamada.
