Three Principles and Five Elements - Sankyogogi (English)

Japanese: 三俠五義 - さんきょうごぎ（英語表記）Sān xiá wǔ yì

A long vernacular novel from the late Qing Dynasty in China. Originally titled "The Tale of Loyal and Valiant Heroes." It is a collection of Shi Yukun's storytelling, with 120 episodes in total. First published in 1879 (5th year of the Guangxu era). It is an expansion of the Ming Dynasty's "Longtu Koan," which describes the splendid trials of Bao Zheng (999-1062), a famous minister of the Northern Song Dynasty, and uses this as the basis for describing the exploits of the "Three Heroes" and the "Five Robbers," aiming for the same level of entertainment as the "Water Margin." Later, the literati Yu Yue published "The Seven Heroes and Five Robbers" (1889), which was expanded, and other sequels were also published.

中国，清代末期の白話長編小説。原名は《忠烈俠義伝》。石玉崑の講談をまとめたもので，全120回。1879年(光緒5)初版。北宋の名臣包拯（ほうじよう）(999‐1062)の名裁判ぶりを描いた明代の《竜図公案》を発展させ，これを軸として〈三俠(3人の俠客)〉と〈五鼠(5人の義賊)〉の活躍ぶりを描き，《水滸伝》の面白さをねらっている。のち文人の兪樾（ゆえつ）が増補して《七俠五義》(1889)を出し，ほかにも続作が出た。
