Marsdenia tomentosa Morr.et Decne.
An evergreen climbing woody plant of the Asclepiadaceae family that grows under evergreen forests (illustration). The stem is woody at the base and green and herbaceous at the top. The leaves are opposite, thick and oval, 7-12cm long and wide, dark green and almost hairless on the upper side, while the undersides are pale green and covered with soft hairs. They flower from August to September, with a dozen or so umbrella-shaped flowers at the end of the flower stalk that extends 2-3cm from the leaf axil. The flowers are white and bell-shaped, about 4mm in diameter, and split into five pieces at the tip. The fruit is ellipsoidal, about 15cm long, and contains many seeds. The seeds have long white hairs.
