[Died] April 8, 1882. Paris. French archaeologist and historian. Renowned as a researcher of the history of clothing, he was a professor at the École des Monographs, and in his later years served as its principal. His works include Procès de condamnation et de réhabilitation de Jeanne d'Arc (1841-49) and Mélanges d'archéologie et d'histoire (Collection of Treatises on Archeology and History, 2 volumes, 1885-86).
