…A Confucian scholar from the Tang Dynasty in China. Also called Kouei-tatsu or Kueida-tsu. His pen name was Zhongda, and he was from Hengshui, Jizhou (Hebei Province). He studied in a time of upheaval, and is said to have recited more than a thousand words a day. He knocked on the door of Liu Huan, who was known as a great Confucian scholar, but after questioning him he found that he was not worthy of respect. He ignored Liu Huan's attempts to stop him, and returned home to teach his students at his home. His knowledge spanned both the northern and southern schools of thought, and he was also well versed in arithmetic, mathematics, and calendar systems. He was listed in the Ming Jing at the end of the Sui Dynasty, and at the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, he became a doctor of the Imperial Council at the age of about 50. After Emperor Taizong ascended to the throne, he became the Imperial Councilor, and together with Yan Shigu, he compiled the History of Sui and the Great Tang Rites, and in 638 (the 12th year of the Zhenguan era), he was offered the honor of being honored at the Imperial Council's Wine Sacrifice. … *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Kong Yingda" are listed below.
