〘 noun 〙 A rank of civil servant under the old constitution. Appointment and dismissal required the Emperor's approval. A rank higher than a junior official. There were two types of official: personal officials, who were appointed at a personal appointment ceremony, and first to ninth rank officials. 〘名〙 旧憲法下における官吏等級の一つ。その任免に、天皇の裁可を要するもの。判任官の上位。親任式をもって叙任する親任官と、一等から九等官に分かれる。なお、一等官、二等官を勅任官、三等官以下九等官までを奏任官といった。※花間鶯(1887‐88)〈末広鉄腸〉中「此の高等官は元と国野と同窓の朋友にて」
