Primary sex ratio

…In animals, the sex ratio generally differs at different stages of life because of differences in mortality rates between males and females. The sex ratio at fertilization is sometimes called the primary sex ratio, that at birth the secondary sex ratio, and that thereafter the tertiary sex ratio. In birds and mammals, where sex is determined by sex chromosomes, the sex ratio is approximately 1:1, but there are many cases where it is biased.
