…Although the city receives rainfall in the winter and occasionally snowfall (annual precipitation is 500 mm), water supply has historically been a major problem for the city. Since ancient times, the spring of Gihon (later also called the spring of the Virgin Mary) has been used as the city's only water source, and various reservoirs have been built, including the Pool of Shiloah, which was drawn from the spring by Hezekiah's Tunnel.
