A town in the southern part of New Zealand's South Island. Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Gold was discovered in the Shotover River in 1863, and the town once boomed with the gold rush. There are ski resorts scattered around the area, and it is now a popular tourist resort. A town in the west of Tasmania, Australia. It developed as a mining town from the mid-19th century and became the largest settlement on the west coast of Tasmania. There is a museum showcasing the history of mining.
