...Population: 43,589 (1995). Famous for producing more than 90% of the nation's metal Western tableware. The city center is located on the banks of the Nakanokuchi River, a branch of the Shinano River, and developed as a riverside market on the Nagaoka Shipway during the Edo period.

However, the Japan Metal Western Tableware Industry Association, an industry group, focuses on table knives, forks, spoons, etc., while the Japan Metal Houseware Industry Association focuses on tableware and utensils.
