Near ultraviolet - Kinshigaisen

Of light (electromagnetic waves with wavelengths of approximately 10 to ¹⁰⁵ nm), ultraviolet rays are on the short-wavelength side of the visible light range (about 400 to 800 nm). Of this, the longer wavelength side, with the dividing line at around 190 nm, is called near ultraviolet or the Dorno range, and the shorter wavelength side is called far ultraviolet or the Schumann range (185 nm or less) and the Millikan range (60 nm or less). Near ultraviolet rays have an energy range of 3 to 7 eV, which corresponds to the value between the energy levels of electrons in atoms, molecules, and solids, making them an effective electromagnetic wave for research into photochemistry and optical properties.

光(波長ほぼ10～10⁵ nm の電磁波)のうち，可視光域(約400～800 nm)の短波長側にあるのが紫外線である．このうち，190 nm あたりを境にして，長波長側を近紫外線またはドルノ(Dorno)域とよび，短波長側を遠紫外線またはシューマン(Schumann)域(185 nm 以下)およびミリカン(Millikan)域(60 nm 以下)とよぶ．近紫外線はエネルギー的には3～7 eV にあたり，原子・分子および固体中の電子のエネルギー準位間の値に相当するので，光化学や光物性の研究手段として有効な電磁波である．
