Kim Hyung-jik

...There are those in the Japanese military and police at the time, as well as those in the current Korean regime, who claim that Kim Il-sung took the name Kim Il-sung, but there is no objective evidence to support this. Born in Daedong County, South Pyongan Province (currently Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang City), he moved to West Jiandao in 1925 with his father Kim Hyung-jik (died 1926), a nationalist activist. He attended Fusong First Elementary School and Hwasung Academy in Huadian County, and after entering Jilin Yumun Middle School in 1927, he became an activist in the Communist Youth League, and in 1929 was arrested and imprisoned by the Kuomintang warlord regime. In the tense situation of the rise of popular anti-Japanese protests following the May 30th Jiandao Uprising in 1930 and the outbreak of the Manchurian Incident, he joined the party (the Chinese Communist Party at the time) in October 1931, and participated in an anti-Japanese guerrilla organization in Chunantu County in 1932.
