Cellulose xanthate - sodium cellulose xanthate

Cellulose xanthate - sodium cellulose xanthate
Common name for sodium cellulose xanthate (C 6 H 9 O 4 ・OCS 2 Na) n ( n is approximately 300). It is obtained by reacting alkali cellulose with carbon disulfide. The free acid state is unstable and does not exist, and it is mostly in the form of a sodium salt. When this is dissolved in dilute sodium hydroxide, a viscous liquid is called viscose, and when viscose is extruded into a sulfuric acid bath and spun, it becomes regenerated cellulose, or rayon. Wood pulp is used as the source of cellulose. [Uriu Toshiyuki]
