Kiwanuka, B.

...The election was won by the Democratic Party (DP, founded in 1956), which was based on Buganda's Catholic minority, and DP leader B. Kiwanuka negotiated the creation of an independence constitution with the British government. At this conference, Buganda was granted federal status, while the other three kingdoms of Bunyoro, Toro, and Ankole were granted semi-federal status, and were distinguished from the other prefectures, which did not have a kingdom structure.
