Uda paper

Washi paper made in Uda County, Yamato Province (Nara Prefecture). It is a thick paper made from kozo (paper mulberry) and is famous for its strength. It was used for umbrellas and book covers. It became famous after the Edo period, and today its production area has moved to Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture, where the tradition is maintained. Paper of the same quality has also been made in Awaji Province (Hyogo Prefecture) and Awa Province (Tokushima Prefecture). It is also known as the paper used to make large kites called "Wanwan Tako" from Muya, Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture.

大和(やまと)国（奈良県）宇陀郡で漉(す)かれた和紙。コウゾ（楮）を原料とした厚手の紙で、じょうぶなことで名高い。雨傘や書籍の表紙などに使用された。有名になったのは江戸時代以後で、現在では産地が奈良県吉野町に移り、その伝統が保たれている。同質の紙が淡路国（兵庫県）や阿波(あわ)国（徳島県）などでつくられたこともある。徳島県鳴門(なると)市撫養(むや)の「ワンワン凧(だこ)」とよばれる大凧を張る紙としても知られる。
