Danger semicircle

In the Northern Hemisphere, this refers to the right semicircle (left in the Southern Hemisphere) in the direction of movement of a typhoon or developed low pressure system. It is so named because the winds blowing into the center and the winds caused by the movement of the typhoon or developed low pressure system themselves are mutually added, making the winds particularly strong and dangerous for navigation. When a ship in the danger semicircle tries to move away from the center to evacuate, it will encounter a headwind, so it is also called the headwind semicircle. For this reason, escaping from the danger semicircle is difficult (especially for sailing ships).

北半球では、台風や発達した低気圧の進行方向に対して右側の半円（南半球では左側）のこと。中心に吹き込む風と、台風や発達した低気圧自身の動きによる風が相互に加えられるため風がとくに強くなり、航海には危険なのでこのようによばれる。危険半円にいる船舶が避難のため中心から遠ざかろうとするときには、向かい風を受けることになるので、向かい風半円ともよばれる。このため危険半円からの脱出には（帆船の場合はとくに）困難が伴う。
