A‐do (English spelling)

Japanese: 阿道 - あどう（英語表記）A‐do

A monk who came to Goguryeo, Korea from Eastern Jin in 374 (4th year of King Sojurim). His birth and death years are unknown. The following year, King Sojurim built Ifuran Temple for Ado, and two years earlier, he built Seongmun Temple for Jundao, a monk who came from Former Qin, and these are considered the beginnings of Buddhism in Korea. There is a legend that Mohuzi, who came from Goguryeo to Ilseon County in Silla during the reign of King Nulgi (417-457) of Silla, and introduced Buddhism, is the same person as Ado, and there is also an alternative version that states that Ado was a 3rd century monk whose father was from Wei and whose mother was from Goguryeo.
