...There are many long turnips in the Tohoku region. Local varieties include hinona (day vegetable), sugukina (sour stem vegetable), and nozawana (nozawana), which are so-called kabuna, with little developed roots. Turnips are generally cultivated by sowing seeds from late summer to autumn and harvesting from late autumn to early winter, but small turnips are grown year-round.
