Class: Cestoda, Order: Cynodontida, Family: Polyorchidae. Body length: 15-35 mm, width: 1.5-3 mm. The body is thread-like, and the mature proglottids at the rear of the body are ray-like and easily separated. Each proglottid has two pairs of reproductive organs, and the genital pores open on both sides. There is a proglottid beak at the head end, which is surrounded by 48-60 hooks like rose thorns. Slightly below this are four oblong suckers. It parasitizes the digestive tract of dogs and cats, but rarely the intestines of humans. The intermediate hosts are dog lice and dog and cat fleas.
