The name of a Neolithic painted pottery culture site in the northwest of Henan Province, China, west of Luoyang. It was discovered by Andersson of Sweden in 1921. The excavation of remains of pit dwellings, stone axes, stone knives, as well as painted pottery, gray pottery, and black pottery revealed that agriculture was practiced here. This culture is called the Yangshao culture, and it spread to the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River. The representative site is the Banpo Village ruins, which has a lot of painted pottery.
