[Adsorption speed]
The speed of adsorption depends on the type of contact between the adsorbent particles and the gas or liquid, but the speed at which the adsorbate diffuses into the adsorbent particles is often important. In liquid-phase adsorption in particular, the speed of this intraparticle diffusion is a major factor in determining the residence time of the liquid in the device, i.e., the contact time between the liquid and the adsorbent.
