As the war loomed, the Religious Organizations Act was enacted in 1940, Salvation Army leaders were investigated on suspicion of espionage, and the paper versions of Yamamuro's Gospel of the Commoner were confiscated. In August, the Salvation Army was finally dissolved and renamed the Salvation Corps.
