As the war loomed, the Religious Organizations Act was enacted in 1940, Salvation Army leaders were investigated on suspicion of espionage, and the paper versions of Yamamuro's Gospel of the Commoner were confiscated. In August, the Salvation Army was finally dissolved and renamed the Salvation Corps. The following year, it joined the United Church of Christ in Japan, but it had to wait until 1946, when the Salvation Army of Japan was rebuilt, before it could resume full-scale activities. ...
