Pyxis (compass) - Rashinbanza (English spelling)

Japanese: らしんばん座(羅針盤座) - らしんばんざ（英語表記）Pyxis

Its abbreviation is Pyx. It is a constellation that rises near the horizon in spring. In Greek times it was called Argo, and was part of a huge constellation that resembled the Argo, an expedition ship from Greek legend. French astronomer NL Lacaille divided it into four parts (1752), and named the northeastern part Pyxis (compass box). However, later J. Lalande called it Malus, and BA Gould, who observed the southern stars in Argentina, again proposed the name Pyxis, which was officially adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 1922.

略号はPyx。春の地平線近くにのぼる星座。ギリシア時代はアルゴ座と呼ばれ，ギリシア伝説の遠征船アルゴをかたどった巨大星座の一部であったが，フランスの天文学者N.L.ラカイユは4分割し(1752)，その東北の小部分をPyxis(羅針盤の箱)と命名した。しかし，そののちJ.ラランドがほばしら座Malusとし，アルゼンチンで南天の星の観測を行ったB.A.グールドは再びらしんばん座を提唱し，これが1922年国際天文連合で正式に採用された。
