Asian Film Festival

…The umbrella concept and term “Southeast Asian Film” was officially created when the first Southeast Asian Film Festival was held in Tokyo in 1954. The organizer was the Southeast Asian Film Producers Association, which was made up of film associations from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore (Singapore separated and became two countries in 1971), Thailand, South Korea, and South Vietnam. The festival, which aimed to promote the film industry in the Asian region, was held in rotation among member countries. …
