Kiitsu

A haiku poet from the mid-Edo period. His real name was Shiina Kazuhito. He was commonly known as Hyozo. He went by the name Kei. His other names were Shijian, Kendensha, Ichushi, Jishoan, Tanchosai, and Jumyoan. He was the second son of Shiina Hyogo (Iyo), an official metal caster for the shogunate, and took the name Shiina Tosa as a metal caster. He learned haiku from Fukaku, Hakuho, Giku, and others, and became independent under the name Shijian. In 1740 (Genbun 5), he joined the group of Edoza Sosho and began the life of a haiku judge. In 1850 (Kan'en 3), he selected the highly praised haiku collection "Mutamagawa" and greatly spread the light and witty Edo style. His edited works include "Hirakawa Bunko," "Azuma Mai," and "Zatsuwasho." He is buried at Ryusenji Temple in Yanaka, Edo. The name Kiitsu was passed down through four generations until the end of the Edo period.

江戸中期の俳人。本名椎名件人(しいなかずひと)。通称兵蔵。慶(けい)氏を称す。別号四時庵(しいじあん)、硯田社(けんでんしゃ)、倚柱子(いちゅうし)、自生庵(じしょうあん)、短長斎(たんちょうさい)、十明庵(じゅうみょうあん)など。幕府御用御鋳物(いもの)師、椎名兵庫（伊予）の次男で、鋳物師として椎名土佐を名のった。不角(ふかく)、白峰(はくほう)、祇空(ぎくう)などに俳諧(はいかい)を学び、四時庵として独立。さらに、1740年（元文5）江戸座宗匠のグループに加わり、俳諧点者の生活に入る。50年（寛延3）高点付句集『武玉川(むたまがわ)』を選んで、軽妙洒脱(しゃだつ)な江戸風を大いに広めた。編著に『平河文庫(ひらかわぶんこ)』『吾妻舞(あづままい)』『雑話抄(ざつわしょう)』などがある。江戸谷中(やなか)・竜泉寺に葬る。なお、紀逸の号は代々継承され、4代幕末に及ぶ。
