Daniel Henry Kahnweiler

1884‐1979
German-born French art dealer and critic. Born in Mannheim, he settled in Paris in 1902 and opened a gallery there in 1907. The following year he held a solo exhibition of a series of early Cubist works by Braque, who had been rejected for the Salon d'Automne, which was the first exhibition of Cubism. He became acquainted with Picasso in 1906, and both Braque and Picasso initially exhibited their works only at Kahnweiler's gallery. He dealt with almost all Cubist artists and worked to promote the movement, particularly through exhibitions abroad.

ドイツ生れのフランスの画商，批評家。マンハイムに生まれ，1902年よりパリに定住，07年パリに画廊を開く。翌年，サロン･ドートンヌに落選したブラックの初期キュビスムによる一連の作品の個展を開催するが，これがキュビスムの最初の展示となる。ピカソとは1906年に知りあい，ブラック，ピカソともに，初期はカーンワイラーの画廊でのみ作品を展示している。彼は，キュビスムのほとんど全画家を扱い，またその運動の推進，とくに国外での展示活動による普及につとめた。
