...German natural scientist and philosopher. Also called Tschirnhaus. Born into an aristocratic family in Lusatia, North Germany. Studied mathematics at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. He also came into contact with Cartesian philosophy through Huygens. After military service, he devoted himself to academics from 1674 onwards. Around that time, he met the young doctor GH Schuller in Amsterdam, who introduced him to Spinoza and he began to correspond with him. In 1675, he formed an association with the young Leibniz in Paris. Leibniz's friendship with Tschirnhausen led him to take a deep interest in Spinoza's ideas. ...
