Raw silk is broadly divided into white cocoon thread (also called white thread) and yellow cocoon thread (also called yellow thread) depending on the color of the raw cocoon, but the cocoon color of the silkworm varieties commonly bred today is white, and most raw silk is white cocoon thread. Yellow cocoon thread is only produced in small quantities in Southeast Asia.
