...The names of the gods of oaths in the treaty documents exchanged between the kings of these two countries also appear, including those of the Vedic gods Mithra, Varuna, Indra, and Nasatya. Furthermore, in a book on horse training written in Hittite by a man named Kikkuri of the Mitanni Kingdom, Sanskrit numbers and words such as vartana (circumference, going around) are used as technical terms for horse training. These clearly suggest that there were people of Indo-Aryan descent among the upper classes of the Mitanni Kingdom.

...The ruling Indo-Aryan tribes were called Mariyanna. Although much is unknown about their language, personal names such as Tushratta, Artatama, and Biridashva, names of gods such as Mithra, Indra, and Varuna, and numerals found in the Kikkuri manuscripts excavated at Boğazköy, suggest a connection to Sanskrit. The Mitanni Kingdom reached its height of power during the time of the Saustatar in the 16th and 15th centuries BC, and its territory included almost all of northern Syria, including Kizzuwatna and Alarak (Tel Atchana) in southeastern Asia Minor, and extended to the areas of Nuzi and Kirkuk on the east bank of the Tigris River in the east.
