Born on July 7, 1874. Grandson of the 12th head of the Kita school, Roppeita Nosei. Succeeded the 14th head of the Kita school in 1884, and took the name Roppeita in 1892. Filled with spirit, he created a versatile and ever-changing style of performance, and revived the Kita family, which had fallen into decline. In 1947, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. In 1953, he was awarded the Order of Culture. In 1955, he was named a Living National Treasure. His wife was the go player Kita Fumiko. He passed away on January 11, 1971, at the age of 96.
